Full CoreChair movement with upper-back support. The CoreChair Elite combines the Classic active seat and pelvic support foundation with a taller, two-tier back. Its patent-pending Clever Spine provides flexible, dynamic thoracic support, giving you a familiar place to rest without turning active sitting into a static recline.

The Elite is the CoreChair Classic from the seat down, then adds a taller two-tier back for people who want more upper-back support. The lower section supports pelvic positioning, while the flexible upper section provides dynamic thoracic contact as your body moves. Clever Spine is designed to move with you rather than lock your torso into one position, preserving the active-sitting experience beneath the sit bones.

The critical difference

Traditional high-back chairs provide static upper-back support, restrict natural movement and hold you in prolonged static postures.

The CoreChair Elite tall back provides dynamic upper-back support that moves with you, so your pelvis stays properly positioned and engaged while your upper back gets adaptive support through your full range of motion.

Best for

People who want CoreChair mechanics with additional upper-back support, a taller and more familiar desk-chair profile, and the option to pause or rest without giving up active sitting. A strong choice for long hours at the desk and for anyone who wants positional variety.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CoreChair Elite and how is it different from the Classic?

The Elite adds a tall dynamic back support with a patent-pending Clever Spine to the CoreChair active-sitting design. Both models share the same sculpted seat, pelvic stabilizer, and 14-degree tilt in all directions. The Elite adds upper back contact for users who want thoracic support during reclined or long-session use without giving up active sitting.

What is the Clever Spine?

The Clever Spine is a patent-pending back structure that connects the seat pan and pelvic stabilizer to an upper support pad. It flexes to allow natural extension, rotation, and flexion of your thoracic spine, so the back moves with you instead of holding you still. This is how the Elite delivers dynamic upper back support rather than the static support you'd get from a traditional high-back chair.

How does the CoreChair Elite compare to a premium ergonomic chair like Herman Miller or Steelcase?

Most premium ergonomic chairs rely on multiple adjustable parts to hold you in a fixed position with supportive but static geometry. The Elite stabilizes the pelvis at its foundation and adds dynamic thoracic support through the Clever Spine, so your entire spine moves naturally while staying aligned. The choice is between a chair that supports you by restricting movement and one that supports you through guided motion.

Should I pick the Elite or the CoreChair Classic?

Both deliver the same active-sitting mechanism, pelvic stabilizer, and sculpted seat. Pick the Elite if you spend long hours at your desk, want upper back contact during recline or focus tasks, and value positional variety. Pick the Classic if you don't need thoracic support and prefer the smaller footprint of a mid-back chair.

What user heights does the Elite fit?

The Elite comfortably seats users from 5'0" to 6'5" with simple adjustments. Seat height adjusts from 42 to 53 cm (16.5 to 21 inches). Seat depth adjusts from 42 to 49 cm (16.5 to 19.25 inches). Thoracic support height adjusts from 53 to 58 cm (20.9 to 22.9 inches).

Does the CoreChair Elite have armrests?

Not in the traditional sense. Conventional armrests can feel bulky, restrictive, or poorly positioned. The Elite has a discrete elbow rest area integrated into the lower back pad instead, with a minimum height of 20 cm (8 inches). It supports your elbows when you need it without blocking movement or taking up workspace around the chair.

Can I control how much the chair moves?

Yes. The Elite has adjustable resistance that lets you dial in how much movement you get from the 14-degree tilt mechanism. Turn it up when you want a more stable seat, or loosen it when you want more active engagement from your core.

What fabric does the Elite use?

The Elite has a durable 3D knit stretch fabric cover with a special traction feature. The stretch construction moves with the chair's dynamic components, and the traction feature keeps you from sliding on the sculpted seat.

Is the Elite recommended for people with existing back pain?

CoreChair recommends the Elite for people with pre-existing back pain who want added thoracic support during reclined positioning. That said, specific back conditions can respond differently to active sitting, so check with your healthcare provider before making a chair change if you have a diagnosed back condition.

Is the tall back meant for constant support or just for recline breaks?

The Clever Spine is designed for dynamic support that engages during recline and thoracic rotation rather than as a permanent leaning post. The pelvic foundation is still the primary support during active sitting - the upper back support activates when you pause, twist, or lean back to recover. If you want a chair for constant full-back contact in a static posture, a traditional high-back is a better fit. The Elite is built for people who want active sitting most of the time and thoracic support when they need a break.
